SME DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS
Who Are They For?
The SME development workshops can be targetted at many different types of participants:
- SME owner-managers
- SME employees
- University students
- Business advisers
- Staff of large businesses (who are working with SMEs, eg Bank staff).
In each case the workshops are very practical and interactive:
SME owners and staff learn practical ways to improve their businesses, as well as widening their understanding of business and (especially important) learning a great deal from other participants.
Business advisers learn more about SMEs, and the ways that they can help them to develop.
Students learn about some key theoretical frameworks, and how they are applied in practice in SMEs.
Corporate staff learn how SME owners think, why they act the way they do, and how to work with them.
Workshop Structure
For each topic, the workshops can vary from an overview in half a day, to a full treatment taking up to 4 days. If required, assignments can be set and marked to Undergraduate or Masters degree standard.

- Finance and marketing for SMEs
- Managing people, including team-working and personal development
- Assessing growth potential, and identifying growth projects
- Implementing projects, and managing change in SMEs
- Using IT and e-commerce to develop the SME
- Improving operations through quality management, lean operations, and better management information
- Personal Skills for Business, including assertiveness, time management, team-work, listening, presentation skills etc
- Social Enterprises, running enterprises that have social as well as financial objectives.
